12.04.2014

In view of the high demand, Stromnetz Berlin GmbH is relaunching the "junction box styling" school project in 2014 in collaboration with the meredo e.V. association. For the sixth time, pupils in year five and above will get the chance to give grey cable distribution boxes in their district a fresh coat of paint using stencils and spray cans. Of the 16,000 boxes in the Berlin city area, around 1,000 now have a colourful design. Another 450 creations will join their ranks by the end of October, as they take centre stage under the slogan "environment, the future and electricity". Street artists and teachers are supporting the children and young people in their task. The first artworks emerged in the Neukölln district this week.

Seventeen schools took part in last year's project, which was sponsored by Stromnetz Berlin GmbH. With the help of employees from meredo e.V. and Vattenfall Europe Netzservice GmbH, children and young people from a range of age groups redesigned almost 250 cable distribution cabinets in their school's local area.

In order to show their appreciation for the participants' efforts, Stromnetz Berlin selected the "most creative junction box 2013". Nine schools applied to the competition. The three best designed junction boxes were chosen by a jury, who awarded prizes to the winners. An "audience prize" was also awarded. The most creative junction box 2014 will be selected on 26 November.

Note: Applications for the 2015 edition are already being considered. Any schools interested in taking part should contact meredo e.V. at verein@meredo.de.
