Junction box styling 2024
Berlin pupils were creative again.
Anyone can do grey - but electricity box styling brings color to the city. The popular school and club project, in which children and young people decorate Stromnetz Berlin GmbH's electricity boxes and transformer stations with colorful designs, continued this year. Every year, around 500 boxes are sprayed in different neighborhoods - with spectacular results. Thanks to the electricity box styling, almost 8,000 of the 16,500 boxes in the entire Berlin city area have now been given a colorful makeover in recent years.
Competion "most creative junction box 2024"
Since 2013, every participating school has been able to submit its most beautiful electricity box to a competition. This is our way of recognizing the commitment of children and young people. A jury awards prizes for the most beautiful electricity box in one or two categories (depending on the number of entries) and for transformer stations.
We also award a public prize every year. Voting takes place via Instagram under “stromkastenberlin” or our website. The prizes for the most beautiful electricity boxes and transformer stations will be presented at the awards ceremony at the end of January 2025.
Once again this year, our city has been made even more colorful with the support of Berlin's students. We look forward to receiving numerous, diverse motifs from the young artists.

Categories
1. Classic prize for junction boxes
School classes, clubs and groups can apply for this prize with one of their junction box designs. It is important that the group or class still exists at the time of the award ceremony so that the prize money can also be spent as a group. The three classes/groups of the winning boxes will each receive a prize of 500 euros for the "class/group kitty".
2. Special prize "Projects" for junction boxes
All young artists who have designed their junction box as part of a group or holiday project can apply for this prize. Project participants who created their junction box design with their class in the second half of the 6th or 10th grade also fall under this group. The teams behind the three winning boxes in this category receive vouchers for online shops.
3. special “Freestyle” prize for electricity boxes
This prize is open to all young artists who have designed their junction box without a template and exclusively freehand. The “Freestyle” category was awarded for the first time in the Electricity Box Styling 2023 project.
4. Special prize for transformer stations
In our projects, it's not just junction boxes that are colourfully designed, but transformer stations too. That’s why we also have a special prize for the most creative transformer station. The winning team also receives vouchers (subject to change without notice).
Audience award for junction boxes
All Berlin residents can choose their favourite junction box as a highlight. Junction boxes from the "classic prize" and "special prize projects" categories are automatically entered. The winning box team will receive a great prize (subject to change without notice).
The campaign is aimed at pupils from the 5th grade onwards. During a one-week project week, each class designs electricity boxes in their neighborhood. At the start of this week, the pupils first develop motifs. Then, under the guidance of experienced street artists and teachers, they create stencils or learn and try out freehand spraying techniques. The culmination is the application of what has been learned on electricity boxes or transformer stations in the vicinity of the respective school. Places are limited and participating schools will be notified by the end of the year at the latest. The selected classes will then be artistically active between March and October 2024.
As the crowning glory of the styling season, the “Most Creative Power Box” will be chosen at the end of the year and the “Public's Favorite” will be selected by public online voting.
In 2024, we will continue to make our city even more colorful with the support of Berlin's students. Next year's electricity box styling will be dedicated to the motto “Energy transition - We're bringing the sun to Berlin”.
