Conscientious and cooperative in achieving goals

Corporate responsibility is important – for us, and in our supply chain too. This is why we take on social responsibility, for example, through diverse sponsoring activities.

Sustainable supply chains

Stromnetz Berlin maintains business relationships with over 800 suppliers: they are who we procure such materials as transformers or cabling from. During construction works, we work with building and excavation companies – as far as legal conditions allow, we commission companies from the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

Our contractual agreements with suppliers and service providers are set out today in a binding code of conduct with clear instructions regarding compliance with human rights, with a special focus on occupational safety, fair pay and environmental protection. This, for us, is a core element of ethical business.

We have also prepared ourselves for the implementation of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, to come into force in 2024. Since 2023 we have developed risk analyses for services, goods groups and products with a view to environmental and human rights aspects.

Our basic declaration on the upholding of human rights ist set out in this document.

InfraLab: cooperation with other infrastructure operators

Sustainability also means cooperation: in the InfraLab Berlin, we work together with other large Berlin infrastructure operators and develop shared solutions for the implementation of the energy transition in the capital. You can find more information on our webpage, Partners and cooperation and at the webpage of InfraLab itself (website in German).

Working for Berlin: our social engagement

Our working environment is the lively, vibrant city of Berlin: a place where, like in all big cities, social problems are an issue that needs to be dealt with. We try to get engaged to help mitigate these problems – something we also understand as part of our commitment to sustainability.

  • Members of our Technical Potential Program (TPP) collect clothing and in-kind donations from our staff each year, which are handed on to the Berliner Stadtmission (webpage in German) and are distributed among the homeless. In 2023 we collected a total weight of 695 kilograms of donations.
  • • During Advent, as part of an annual Christmas campaign, our employees make wishes come true for children between 1 and 18 years of age from the Kinder- und Jugendhaus Bolle and the Kindertages- und Nachthospiz Berliner Herz.
  • With our Junction box stylingcampaign, we offer school pupils, associations and initiatives the ability to creatively design their living environment.

Alongside this, we also support certain initiatives and organisations as a direct sponsor, living up to our responsibility towards Berlin society as a company owned by the State.
