The application process for positions on the Citizens' Council is now open: Stromnetz Berlin and the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district authority are promoting citizen participation
District mayor Nadja Zivkovic is keen to emphasise the importance of experience and perspectives

The Marzahn-Hellersdorf district authority and Stromnetz Berlin are together promoting greater citizen participation in the district and also throughout Berlin. On 2 July, the grid operator and district mayor Nadja Zivkovic officially opened the application process for the next term of Stromnetz Berlin's Citizens' Council in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf "space for participation". Accordingly, citizens can apply for positions on the Citizens' Council from now until 15 December 2025. The Council has been advising Stromnetz Berlin on grid operation issues, such as construction sites and approval procedures, since May 2022 and is now entering its next term of office. Marzahn-Hellersdorf has two representatives on the 24-member Citizens' Council.
District mayor Nadja Zivkovic says: "The citizens of Marzahn-Hellersdorf are not only keen to get involved in the district but also throughout the city as a way of further advancing our Berlin. Stromnetz Berlin's Citizens' Council shows that this commitment pays off for all sides and bears fruit. I encourage all citizens to apply, so that they can contribute their experiences and perspectives. Four years ago, most of the almost 200 applications came directly from our district. Maybe we can do it again."
The present Citizens' Council will be replaced at the end of 2025 as per the rotation. All Berliners aged 16 and over can apply. As a company owned by the state of Berlin, Stromnetz Berlin aims to be a reliable infrastructure partner that is close to its citizens, continuously improving its services and aligning them with the needs of the city's population. One key in this regard is engaging in trusting dialogue with citizens.
The Council typically meets three times a year. Alongside this, there are also working groups that focus on specific topics. One of these working groups, for example, addressed the challenges of administration and infrastructure companies. This resulted a diagram that makes the complicated subject of approval procedures easier to grasp.
