Update: on the power outage in Berlin-Johannisthal
3,000 additional customers resupplied
09.09.2025, 04:45 PM
In the early morning at around 3.30 a.m., we received a report of a fire at two overhead line pylons, which represent the transition from overhead lines to underground cables, in Berlin-Johannisthal. The fire has now been extinguished. According to the police, it was an arson attack and a letter of claim is being investigated.
As a result of the fire, around 50,000 households and commercial customers in Johannisthal, Bohnsdorf, Niederschöneweide, Grünau, Adlershof, Altglienicke and neighbouring districts have been without power since 5.09 am.
Technical measures enabled us to restore supplies to 14,000 household and commercial customers at 10.21 am. At 4.28 pm we reconnected a further 3,000 customers to the network. Our colleagues are also working on an interim solution in order to restore supplies to a further 2,000 customers in the early hours of this evening. This means that 31,000 customers are currently without electricity and will remain so until the emergency repairs have been completed.
Together with our partner companies, we are working around the clock to ensure that supplies to all customers are restored as quickly as possible. Extensive civil engineering work and cable installations are necessary for emergency repairs. In the course of Wednesday, the conditions for the cable installation work will be created.
We ask the population in the affected areas to be prepared for a longer period of interruption to their supplies. We are currently assuming that supplies to the area will only be fully restored over the next few days.
We ask all customers who were affected by the power outage and whose supplies have now been restored to minimise their electricity consumption. This will enable us to keep the power supply stable and - if technically possible - supply more customers with electricity again.
Specifically, we ask you to adopt energy-saving measures. If possible, avoid using vacuum cleaners, washing machines, dishwashers, ovens or other energy-intensive appliances. Thank you in advance for your help in this difficult situation.
A few tips for correct behaviour in the event of a supply failure:
- Refrigerators and freezers should be kept closed as much as possible to prevent cold from escaping and to keep food fresh for longer.
- Pay attention to warning messages from the police and fire brigade, the media and warning apps.
- Offer help to neighbours who need it.
- Switch off all electronic devices to avoid the risk of damage when the power supply is restored.
In urgent emergencies, please contact the nearest police station or fire station directly.
We regret the difficult situation being experienced by the customers affected and are doing everything we can to ensure that supplies are restored as quickly as possible. Thank you for your co-operation!
