Update: After this fire: The power outage is going to last considerably longer
03.01.2026
There is still a major power outage in south-west Berlin. Around 45,000 households and 2,200 commercial customers in the Nikolassee, Zehlendorf, Wannsee and Lichterfelde districts have been affected since 6 a.m. today (3 January 2026).
The cause is a now extinguished fire on a cable bridge over the Teltow Canal near the Lichterfelde cogeneration plant. This damaged several high-voltage cables.
Due to the substantial amount of damage caused, it will take a very long time to repair these power cables. Stromnetz Berlin is currently working on setting up a temporary solution. We expect power to be restored to all customers by next Thursday afternoon (8 January 2026).
This task requires extensive civil engineering and cable pulling. The weather conditions also make this work much more difficult. In addition, evidence is still being secured at the scene of the fire.
In the Lichterfelde area, in the course of the late evening, with the help of other power supply units, we shall be working on restoring the power supply to around 10,000 households.
