Questions and answers on the citizens' council

What tasks do I have in the Citizens' Council?

In the Citizens' Council, you represent the interests of Berliners. You make suggestions, proposals and criticism to us. You also set the agenda for your meetings together with the others.

How many people make up the Citizens' Council?

With you, the Citizens' Council consists of a total of 24 members. These in turn are distributed so that each district is represented by two members. We also ensure equal representation in terms of m/f/d.

How is the selection made?

The selection will take place in January 2026.

12 members will be selected by lot from the valid applications received, one member per Berlin district. The draw will take place under notarial supervision and will be notarised.

There is also a succession list. The successor list is determined 100% by lot.

If you have been drawn, we will inform you in writing.

How often does the Council meet?

As a citizens' council, you meet three times a year.

Members can also meet to organise working groups.

Do I receive an expense allowance as a member of the Citizens' Council?

As a member of the Citizens' Council, you will receive an expense allowance from us. This amounts to 50 euros per meeting. If you actively participate in working groups, you will also be reimbursed a flat-rate expense allowance of 50 euros per person per year.

How can I find out more about the work of the Citizens' Council?

The work of the Citizens' Council is documented transparently on our Citizens' Council website.
