Procurement of grid loss energy
According to the energy industry act (Energiewirtschaftsgesetz - EnWG) and the electricity grid access ordinance (Netzzugangsverordnung Strom), energy supply system operators must procure the energy for covering grid losses in a market-focussed, transparent and non-discriminatory manner.
In a directive (no. BK6-08-006), the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) stipulated the framework conditions for procuring energy losses and for the grid loss calculation process.
The method previously used to procure long-term forecast energy losses (long-term component) via tenders was discontinued on 31 December 2025.
From 1 January 2026, the long-term component will be procured independently on an exchange-organised trading platform.
The short-term component will continue to be procured via a third party (service provider) determined in a tender process.
The published documents must be used for the tenders.
Terms and conditions of participation
Only suppliers with a (sub) balancing group in the operating area of 50Hertz Transmission GmbH or the allocation authorisation of a person responsible for a balancing group may participate in a tender.
