Cable renovation in Spandau's old town

Berlin's growing demand for electricity requires extensive expansion of the power grid. Over the next ten years, capacity is set to more than double – extensive work is planned on Berlin's distribution network to achieve this.

Starting in 2026, construction work will begin in Spandau's old town to expand and renovate the medium and low-voltage grid. Completion is scheduled for 2030.

Our construction project in Spandau's old town is divided into three construction phases. The first construction phase will take place in 2026-2027 around the market square.

In addition to the redesign of the market square, the underground cable system will be modernized. More information on the redesign can be found at Altstadtmanagement Spandau.

The second construction phase, in the south of Spandau's old town, is planned for 2028 and 2029. The final construction phase in the north-east of the old town will also begin in 2029 and is expected to last until 2030.

Further information

The underground cable work will take place on public roads and is subject to special usage rights in accordance with Section 12 of the Berlin Road Construction Act. There are no plans to cut off the power supply. Instead, the work will be carried out in several small sections. Once one section has been completed, the construction site equipment will move seamlessly on to the next small section.

Unfortunately, construction work is not silent and may cause inconvenience to residents and businesses. Work will generally take place on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. (depending on the season).

Restrictions on public roads, such as half or complete road closures, are necessary for the construction work. However, we will try to keep the restrictions to a minimum. If access roads are affected, individual arrangements will be made on site with the responsible civil engineer.

Emergency routes and waste disposal will remain guaranteed. Please also note any notices posted by the BSR. Access to shops will remain available at all times via pedestrian bridges. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
