Expansion of the Claszeile substation
We are investing in the future in your district and thus in maintaining and expanding a secure energy grid.

Planned expansion of Claszeile substation at district Zehlendorf.
More and more charging stations for electric vehicles, photovoltaic systems on roofs or balconies are shaping Berlin’s urban landscape. And Berlin’s electricity grid will also cover part of the heat supply in the future. To ensure that our power grid is set up to cover all these tasks reliably, we are renewing and expanding the Claszeile substation.
Up-to-date construction information
- In autumn 2023, initial preparations were made for the construction of the substation extension. An access road was built and the construction site was set up.
- Civil engineering work began in the first quarter of 2025. This mainly involved excavating the construction pit, including temporary storage and removal of the excavated soil. In addition, piles were driven into the ground to support the building's foundations.
- The extension will be built between August 2025 and the fourth quarter of 2027.
- The electrical systems will be renewed by the end of 2031.
- From the end of 2027 to the end of 2030, additional power cables will be laid in the area around Claszeile.
- The work will take place on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. (depending on the season) and will lead to increased noise levels during certain phases.
- Construction noise will not occur throughout the entire construction period, but only during individual phases that are necessary for construction purposes.
- Access to private properties will remain unchanged, but there will be restrictions on public roads.
- Emergency routes will remain open at all times.
- There will be no planned power outages.
