Expansion of the Kladow substation

We are investing in the future of your neighbourhood – and in the maintenance and expansion of a reliable electrical grid.

The Berlin cityscape is marked by an ever-greater number of electric vehicle charging stations and roof-mounted and balcony-mounted solar panels. In the future, Berlin's electrical grid will also be responsible, in part, for heating. So the grid can be made ready for all these new tasks, we are going to renovate and expand the Kladow substation.

The modernisation work will be carried out during ongoing operations. We therefore intend to erect a new replacement building on the neighbouring property.

The new substation is planned as a three-part building ensemble. The new buildings will blend in with the existing neighbouring buildings. The tallest of the three buildings will be no more than ten metres high.

Once the new replacement building has been completed, the old plant will be decommissioned and dismantled. The vacated area will then be landscaped.

A development plan is a prerequisite for the realisation of the project. The Spandau district office has passed the resolution for the development plan procedure 5-132 and published it in the
published in the Berlin Official Gazette on 4 August 2023.

Information on the planned construction works

  • The old telecommunications equipment building will be demolished. A smaller new building will be constructed. An existing mobile phone mast will remain in place.

  • Construction preparations will begin in 2026 at the earliest (depending on the outcome of the development plan process).

  • Once the new substation is operational, the old substation will be decommissioned.

  • Dismantling of the old plant and greening of the area.
