Which household device is pushing up my energy bills? Where is it worth replacing my outdated but still-functional devices? And how much energy could I save by changing my habits? The practical test "Consumers measure!", by the Deutschen Energie-Agentur (dena - German Energy Agency) in collaboration with Stromnetz Berlin GmbH and corporate partners Miele & Cie, KG and Liebherr-Hausgeräte Ochsenhausen GmbH, provides the answers.
Whether you're part of a family, single or in shared accommodation - Berlin's households of every size and type can apply for the free practical test by 24 July 2015 at the latest at www.stromeffizienz.de/verbraucher-messen-nach. Participating households will also be entered into a prize draw to win highly efficient fridges and washing machines from Miele and Liebherr, valued at EUR 5000.
In its three-month-long energy measurement campaign, the EnergyEfficiency initiative is looking for two factors: the actual energy consumption of individual household devices and the impact of users' behaviour on the devices' energy consumption. At the end of the campaign, households will know the precise energy consumption of their electrical devices and will also have a better understanding of how they can reduce their energy consumption and costs.
The selected households will receive a package from dena with four to six energy measuring devices, which they can install themselves. After three months, they will be visited by a dena employee who will read the data on-site. This lasts approximately 15 minutes. As a thank you, the households are allowed to keep the measuring devices. They will also receive a detailed evaluation of the energy consumed by the household devices being monitored and individual energy-saving tips.
