A new option for electrical installers in Berlin is now available. An automatic electricity meter issuing service has been set up in Berlin Mariendorf, called the 'Meter Depot'. From now, old meters can be handed in and new meters picked up around the clock. This new service supplements the previous option of picking up or returning meters from or to staff in the meter warehouse at the same location.
An inconspicuous blue-framed door on Wilhelm-von-Siemens-Str. opens onto the new, advanced technology – a high-bay stockroom with mobile pallets and a total of 224 dedicated storage locations, evenly split between issuing new meters and returning old meters. Electrical installers picking up meters can choose from three different meter types and take up to five meters per transaction. This covers approximately 90 per cent of the usual transactions for meter installation. A prerequisite for using the Meter Depot is a contractual agreement between the installer and Stromnetz Berlin for the meter installation, as well as a personal meter issuing card.
The meters are stocked and removed at the rear of the Meter Depot directly from the meter warehouse. If an electrical installer needs a larger number of meters, they can be ordered several days in advance and picked up at an agreed date and time from the meter warehouse. Delivery via courier service is also possible.
With the new Meter Depot, Stromnetz Berlin has considerably expanded its service hours for electrical installers. Meter issuing and return at the meter warehouse is still possible Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. More information about the new depot and its services is available here.
New electricity meters are installed by electrical installers as part of new build projects. For remodelling of electrical installations and refurbishment of existing buildings, conventional meters are exchanged for new, modern electricity meters.
