Kick-off for Stromnetz Berlin's new Citizens' Council

Every Berlin district represented twice / Focus on resilience and network duplication

23.03.2026

Stromnetz Berlin builds and operates the capital's electricity grid for the people of the city. What matters to Berliners when it comes to the electricity grid is important to the company. This is why the Stromnetz Berlin Citizens' Council was established in 2022. This year marks the start of the Council's second term of office with new members. Now 21 of the 24 in total - two per Berlin district - have met for the kick-off meeting at the electricity grid headquarters in Treptow.

Milena Paul, Citizens' Council Coordinator in the Politics & Communications team at Stromnetz Berlin, says: “It was a very intensive first exchange. I am delighted that we were able to find such a colourful and diverse council. The many different perspectives will enrich our work and take Berlin a step further in terms of electricity”.

In addition to getting to know each other, this first meeting focussed on the framework conditions for the joint work. The Council will meet three times a year until December 2029. The Spokesperson and Deputy Spokesperson will be elected this summer. In addition to the topic of network resilience, the Council also wants to address the doubling of capacity and the planning processes. The coordination of construction sites in the city is seen as a particularly important issue.

Eleven women, twelve men and one non-binary person are represented on the Council. The members are between their mid-20s and mid-60s. They come from different parts of society, some have experience in other participation bodies or the energy industry, but there are also participants with completely different backgrounds. Those selected were drawn by lot from a total of 177 applications.

The members of the new Citizens’ Council are: Martin Wiesel, Jens Stadler, Dr Nicole Rudner, Roland Klein, Maren Diepold, Sandy Adam, Uwe Plentz, Olivia Töpfer, Tina Semik, Yusuf C., Hakan Yazanel, Andreas Schmidt, Heidrun Bäumker, Aljoscha Schulte, Wiebke Rasmussen, Anja Scheunemann, Ruben Norgall, Frank Mattes, Thomas Siegemund, Lea Igel, Winfried Pittke, Parul Kumar, Christine Lober and Christopher Marten.
