Tigers, wolves and kissing swans in Tegelort

Year 7 pupils decorate 15 distribution cabinets in their neighbourhood as part of their final project

15.06.2026

The Tegelort peninsula in Reinickendorf has always been green. But since the beginning of June, the area has boasted even more colour. As part of their end-of-year project, the Year 7 pupils at 'Grundschule am Tegelschen Ort' primary school designed and spray-painted 15 Stromnetz Berlin distribution cabinets. Dolphins, sharks, whales, tigers, wolves, owls, swans and cats now adorn the cabinets in the neighbourhood. Under the guidance of street artist Lars Hetmanek from Reinickendorf-based meredo e.V., sailboats, butterflies and – as a small tribute to a teacher of the same name – a rose were also spray-painted. Ten years ago, pupils from the school had already designed a number of distribution cabinets for the Berlin network operator.

Since 2009, Stromnetz Berlin has been offering children and young people the opportunity to decorate around 500 of its approximately 18,100 distribution cabinets in Berlin each year during distribution cabinet styling project weeks. This not only makes the city more colourful, but also encourages creativity and has been shown to secure long-term protection from vandalism for the energy infrastructure. meredo e.V. has been running these educational projects on behalf of Stromnetz Berlin since 2011. Alongside the artistic aspects, the course also covers topics such as copyright law, environmental protection and health and safety.

Schools can contact us at any time and apply for a project week of this kind by sending a mail to [email protected].
