Lighting projects - Our references

As a competent partner for the state of Berlin and contact for public lighting, we initiate and support projects and contribute to an attractive urban design. The use of modern technology, the realisation of innovative ideas and compliance with street lighting standards are key features of our work.

Karl-Marx-Allee, Berlin-Friedrichshain

Berliner Strasse with the lights switched on and the television tower and cranes in the background.

Task

  • Historical restoration of the lighting on Karl-Marx-Allee

The challenge

  • The pavement must be adequately lit despite the trees planted and grown in 1960.

Solution

  • Replica of the 1960 streetlight, also with consideration of lighting for footpaths
  • Dimensions of the streetlight: Length 2.0 m x height 0.7 m x width 0.5 m

Klosterstraße, Berlin-Spandau

People are walking through a dark subway and there are bright points of light along the way.

Task

  • Improvement of the urban space in the subway at the request of the district of Spandau

The challenge

  • Subway with a dark spatial impression during the day for pedestrians and cyclists
  • 60 metre long railway subway with up to 5 lanes in each direction
  • Large number of pedestrian users
  • Significant differences in lighting levels between subway and access areas
  • Important link between Spandau’s historic city centre and Wilhelmstadt
  • Noise from car and train traffic

Solution

  • Effective illumination through high-intensity light points from narrow-beam luminaires
  • Visual guidance by means of a line of lighting points that provide orientation in underpasses

Pedestrian crossing lighting Jacques-Offenbach-Platz (roundabout), Berlin-Marzahn

A man walks along a floodlit street at night.

Task

  • Pedestrian crossings at each entrance and exit of the roundabout

The challenge

  • Existing gas lighting in neighbouring streets
  • Gas lighting is not an acceptable alternative for pedestrian crossings
  • Conversion taking into account the appearance of the gas lights

Solution

  • Careful conversion of the lighting on the roads in front of and in the roundabout (lighting and pedestrian crossings) in line with the preservation order

Bebelplatz, Berlin-Mitte

Square with an illuminated facade of a building at nightfall.

Task

  • Replacement of the lighting in accordance with the lighting masterplan with efficient illumination for neighbouring buildings
  • Bebelplatz with its memorial to the burning of books should be free of the disruptive effects of artificial lighting
  • Illumination of the facades of the Humboldt University Faculty of Law, Hotel de Rome, St Hedwig's Cathedral and the State Opera House
  • Additional solution for night-time hours, taking ecological aspects into account

The challenge

  • Utilisation of the few existing light point locations that do not have a uniform distance to the facades
  • Each light point for the illumination had to be given a different light intensity in order to realise the lighting for the square via the light reflection of the façade

Solution

  • Use of columns of the same height with different light inserts
  • All light inserts can be controlled individually, resulting in uniform facade lighting
  • Creation of several lighting scenarios, taking into account the changing switch-on times throughout the year

Volkspark Hasenheide, Berlin-Neukölln

A cyclist rides on a floodlit park path at night.

Task

  • Replacement of the old lighting on the busy main routes with smart lighting

The challenge

  • Renewal of the power supply for the lighting while protecting the existing trees
  • The level of lighting changes when the paths are used - otherwise orientation lighting

Solution

  • Minimalist path lighting with different lighting levels depending on the time of day
  • Adjustment of the lighting level as required

Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin-Mitte

A luminous candelabra consisting of several lights at night in front of the German Cathedral at Gendarmenmarkt.

Task

  • Renewal of the public lighting on the square in keeping with the historical monument

The challenge

  • Realisation of better lighting with LED lighting technology via the existing lamppost locations
  • Reconstruction of the candelabra due to substantial damage
  • Replacement of the lights
  • Implementation of a lighting plan that can be approved by the responsible monument protection authority

Solution

  • Reconstruction of the old candelabra in line with listed buildings, using a new steel supporting structure in accordance with current structural requirements
  • Optimisation of new uniform LED lighting technology for use in the old reconstructed and new historicising luminaires
  • Refurbishment of the bollard lights and use of new LED light inserts
