Restructuring of the network in Steglitz-Zehlendorf
Berlin's growing demand for electricity requires extensive expansion of the power grid. Capacity is set to double by 2033, which will require extensive work on Berlin's distribution network in the coming years. In order to guarantee the reliability of the grid and minimise the risk of power outages, around 6,000 additional cables will be laid in addition to the existing 36,000 kilometres of cables.
Construction work to expand and renovate the distribution network will begin in Steglitz-Zehlendorf in 2025. Completion is scheduled for 2030.
Construction period
First quarter of 2026 up to and including the fourth quarter of 2030.
Construction work
The cable work will be carried out during ongoing operations. In order to ensure the power supply at all times, the planned work will be carried out sequentially in different construction phases.
The entire network restructuring is taking place in the districts of Steglitz, Lichterfelde and Lankwitz.
General information
Construction work is usually neither silent nor unrestricted. You can expect the following disruptions during the construction period:
- Work will take place on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. (depending on the season) and will lead to increased noise levels during certain phases.
- Construction noise will not occur throughout the entire construction period, but only during individual phases that are necessary for the construction work.
- Access to private properties will remain unaffected, but there will be restrictions on public roads.
- Emergency routes will remain open at all times.
- There will be no planned power outages.
