Stromnetz Berlin continues to "switch on" the lights in Berlin

On December 12, the state of Berlin awarded the management of public lighting to Stromnetz Berlin following a Europe-wide tender.

On December 12, the state of Berlin awarded the management of public lighting to Stromnetz Berlin following a Europe-wide tender.

Public lighting in Berlin comprises around 190,000 electrical lighting systems and 32,000 gas lamps. It thus represents Germany's largest inner-city luminaire portfolio. In addition, there are the public buildings, tunnels and traffic systems.

Now, the management of public lighting has been re-assigned by the responsible Senate of Environment, Transport and Climate Protection following a Europe-wide tender. Stromnetz Berlin therefore remains as service provider for the state of Berlin for another ten years period. The contract starts on October 1, 2018.

Thomas Schäfer, Managing Director at Stromnetz Berlin, is pleased about the major order: "We have submitted an interesting, innovative and economical offer to the state of Berlin. Of course, we are very happy that we were able to prevail in a European competitive environment. After all, the public lighting business in Berlin has a long tradition for us."

With a break of about a decade, Stromnetz Berlin has been operating public lighting management since 1884. This includes the operation, maintenance, repair and repair of public lighting, including illuminated traffic signs and traffic facilities.
