Berlin's newest grid node in the Berlin electricity network is now up and running. On Thursday evening, the Charlottenburg grid node – a gas-insulated 110 kV switchgear facility – was formally commissioned by Christian Rickerts, State Secretary in the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, Thomas Schäfer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Stromnetz Berlin, and Dr Frank Büchner of Siemens Energy.
Together with Siemens, Stromnetz Berlin today commissioned a switchgear installation in a medium-voltage (10 kV) compact station in Siemensstadt that operates without the global warming gas sulphur hexafluoride (SF6).
The 'market declaration' issued by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) on 31 January 2020, which comes into force on 24 February, gave the green light for the legally prescribed installation of smart meters in Germany. As the local distribution system operator and responsible metering point operator in the capital, Stromnetz Berlin can now begin the smart meter roll-out.
