Launch of poster campaign with District Councillor Korinna Stephan
New members wanted for the grid operator's citizens' council / Kick-off in Reinickendorf
02.01.2025
Twenty-four residents of Berlin - two from each district - have been advising Stromnetz Berlin on the future of the Berlin grid since 2022. In 2025, the company will be looking for new members to join its Citizens' Council from 2026. Stromnetz Berlin is providing information on the Council and its work in all Berlin districts this year. The poster campaign was launched on 2 January at Wittenau S-Bahn station and at Reinickendorf town hall with Reinickendorf's District Councillor for Urban Development Korinna Stephan; Head of Customer Management at Stromnetz Berlin, Dr Anke Reimers, and Sonja Hoffman, who represents Reinickendorf on the Citizens' Council.
Korinna Stephan, Reinickendorf's District Councillor for Urban Development: "The expansion of the electricity grids is central to the climate-friendly future of our city. Renewable energies, electromobility and smart technologies require efficient infrastructures. Reinickendorf is growing: the people who will be living and working in our new developments will also need electricity. Cooperation between Stromnetz Berlin, the district authorities and, above all, the local people who know the needs and potential of their district is indispensable. I would therefore like to thank the citizens who are involved in this important committee."
Dr Anke Reimers, Head of Customer Management at Stromnetz Berlin, adds: "As a municipal company, we ensure that the residents of Berlin have a secure supply of electricity every day. Dialogue is very important to us. Since its foundation in 2022, the Citizens' Council has established itself as a valuable advisor and important partner for us. We want to double our network capacity for the growing city over the next ten years. Reinickendorf plays an important role here. Along with many kilometres of new cables, we are also building new substations and grid nodes. 2024, for instance, saw the ground-breaking ceremony for Stromnetz Berlin's new Wittenau grid node. And we are also expanding our network for the future of the former Tegel Airport."
Each district has its own local poster motif with a touch of humour. It kicks off in Reinickendorf, the "pure energy village" (”rein” is the German word for “pure”), as the poster says.
Stromnetz Berlin's Citizens' Council has now held nine joint meetings and countless working group meetings to discuss topics such as diversity, recruiting new talent and speeding up approval processes. The committee is intended to promote citizen participation as a principle of political decision-making.
Anyone interested in joining the Citizens' Council from 2026 can register here now to find out more about the work. Applications will be accepted from summer 2025.
