Customers and system operators

Customer portal and registration

Do I need to register in order to use the customer portal?

Yes, customers/system operators and installers must register once on our customer portal in order to be able to use the portal.

However, registration is straightforward and you will be guided through the process on the portal: Register now

I do not have an e-mail address. Is it still possible to register my system without using the customer portal?

No, unfortunately that is not possible. Please speak to a friend or the person who is installing/setting up your system and ask for support.

I am commissioning an installer/system planner or an electrician to connect a PV system. Will I be informed/updated about the registration process?

Please provide the person planning and/or installing your system or your electrician with your valid e-mail address.

If you do not yet have your own customer account (at the e-mail address stated), you will receive a request to register at that e-mail address. You will then receive a mail to verify your request. All further information will then be provided on our customer portal.

Registering installations

If my PV system is larger than 800 VA, can I register it myself?

No. The application must be submitted by the system builder/installer. Registration by the system operator is not possible for these systems.

Since 16 May 2024, registration for plug-in PV systems with a maximum output of 800 VA (SAmax) has been carried out exclusively via the BNetzA's Market master data register.

Please note that only one system with a maximum inverter output of 800 VA is permitted per subscriber (meter).

I am not the sole owner/subscriber of the grid connection. What do I need to be aware of?

Different technical requirements apply to a connected feed-in power of more than 30 kVA per grid connection point (grid connection). Please therefore discuss in advance with the co-owner(s) of the grid connection whether and how many kVA of inverter power are already available. The technical requirements can be found in VDE AR-N 4105:2018 and the technical connection conditions.

You can find the technical connection requirements here.

Meters

Is the bidirectional meter also a balancing electricity meter?

Yes, every three-phase meter we use is balancing. The quantities of electricity fed in and purchased are measured and the difference is taken into account for billing. This means that only the difference is paid/charged.

Does someone have to be on site when the meter is installed?

Yes, we or our contractors must be given access to the measuring point.

How long does it take to install a meter?

Meters with plug-in mounting are usually installed within a few minutes without interrupting the power supply. Other mounting types may take longer.

You can find more information on this on our website in the Meters section.

Where can I find my meter and the corresponding number of my electricity meter?

Electricity meters are typically installed in the hallway of most buildings, where you will also find the main fuses. If you live in a rented apartment and cannot find an electricity meter in your apartment, please contact your landlord. The meter number is printed directly on your meter. The meter number has the form 1XXXYYYYYYYYYY (digits and letters) or 12345678 (digits).

You can find further information on this here: Meter reading

I would like to use PV electricity and a discounted tariff for my heat pump in accordance with Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG). What do I need to be aware of?

If you wish to do this, two different meter panels with three-point mounting in cascade connection (MK 4.4) must be installed. Installation of a meter cascade using meters with plug-in mounting is not yet possible. You can find further information on the various measuring concepts here:

Measuring concepts in customer systems

Commissioning

Do I need an electrician to commission the system?

Yes, commissioning must be carried out by a registered electrician in accordance with Section 13 of the German Low Voltage Connection Ordinance (NAV).

What are the SEE number, the EEG number and the KWK (CHP) number?

SEE is the German abbreviation for electricity generating unit (Stromerzeugungseinheit).

The EEG or KWK (CHP) number is the number of the system. EEG is an abbreviation for the German Renewable Energy Sources Act 2012 and is awarded for photovoltaic (PV), biomass and wind power plants. KWK is the German abbreviation for combined heat and power (CHP) and is awarded to systems that generate both heat and electricity.

The numbers are assigned from the market master data register in the course of registering a system of this kind.

Billing

How can I notify you of my system's meter reading?

You can enter the meter reading on our online meter portal: https://mein.stromnetz.berlin/web/zaehlerstand

or send us an e-mail for your feed-in meter(s) to [email protected]

How can I apply for a greater discount due to an increased feed-in?

Please send an e-mail to our mailbox [email protected] with a suggestion as to how much you think the discount should be adjusted. We will check your proposal and then adjust your discount appropriately based on experience with comparable systems.

How can I have the feed-in compensation paid out to a third party or waive the compensation altogether?

Please send an e-mail to the mailbox [email protected] with the subject "Declaration of assignment" or "Free-of-charge provision". Opting out of compensation – i.e. choosing free-of-charge provision – is only possible for systems in accordance with the German Renewable Energy Sources Act 2012 (EEG) with an installed capacity of less than 400 kW or for EEG systems with a capacity of less than 200 kW commissioned after 1 January 2026.

Other questions

How do I notify you that a generating system has been decommissioned/removed?

Please notify us of the decommissioning of a generating system on our customer portal. You do not need to send an e-mail or fill out any forms for this. Please also enter the meter number, the SEE numbers and/or the market location number on the customer portal.

Customer portal and registration

Do I need to register in order to use the portal?

Yes, planners, system builders and installers must register once on our customer portal in order to be able to use the portal. However, registration is straightforward and you will be guided through the process on the portal: go to the customer portal.

Will my customer be informed/updated about the process of registering or connecting their system?

Yes, we will take care of this. Simply ask the future system operator to provide you with an e-mail address.

If they do not yet have their own customer account (at the e-mail address stated), your customer will receive a request to register at that e-mail address. Your customer will then receive a mail to verify the request. The customer receives all further information on the customer portal itself.

Installation, registration and commissioning

My customer is not the sole owner or subscriber of the grid connection. What does my customer need to be aware of?

The feed-in power of the connection is important here: Different technical requirements apply to a power of more than 30 kVA per grid connection point (grid connection). Please discuss with the co-owner/co-subscriber of the grid connection whether and how many kVA of inverter power are already available.

The technical requirements can be found in VDE AR-N 4105:2018 and the grid operator-specific technical connection conditions.

To how many decimal places should the total module output be stated?

The information must be documented to the exact Wp (for example 4.625 kWp).

How can I subsequently register a storage facility?

You can register a storage facility via our customer portal.

Do I need to notify Stromnetz Berlin when replacing inverters?

Yes, please always inform us of any changes to the technical equipment. At present, you can still send all the necessary information by e-mail to [email protected], including all registration documents in accordance with VDE 4105:2018-11. We are also currently working on implementing a portal-based solution for this.

Is it necessary for Stromnetz Berlin to commission the PV system?

If grid safety management and/or a key switch is required, commissioning will be carried out by Stromnetz Berlin. In exceptional cases, Stromnetz Berlin may also need to commission other systems. However, we will inform you and your customer of this in good time during the processing procedure.

Meters

My customer already has a bidirectional meter. Does the notification of commissioning/change (application for the meter) still need to be submitted?

Yes, the system cannot be approved without the fully completed and signed document.

My customer would like to use PV electricity and a discounted tariff for their heat pump in accordance with Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG). What do I need to be aware of?

Two meter panels with three-point mounting in cascade connection (MK 4.4) must be installed for this purpose. Installation of a meter cascade using meters with plug-in mounting is not currently possible. Please note our information on the various measuring concepts:
