Thomas Schäfer named new CEO of Stromnetz

Thomas Schäfer (54), previously Head of Technology at Stromnetz Berlin GmbH, will join the Board of Directors of the Berlin-based energy grid operator and become its CEO.
Thomas Schäfer (54), previously Head of Technology at Stromnetz Berlin GmbH, will join the Board of Directors of the Berlin-based energy grid operator and become its CEO. He has extensive experience in the energy industry, especially regarding the operation of electricity grids.

He has worked in the Vattenfall group and its predecessors in a variety of roles since 1991. Among other things, he was Head of the High Voltage department in Hamburg, from 2002 to 2007 he led "system management" at Vattenfall Europe Transmission GmbH and was then responsible for the Security of Supply department.
Thomas Schäfer will follow Dr Helmar Rendez (52) who, on the same date, will move across to the Board of Directors of Vattenfall Europe Mining & Generation AG in Cottbus. Rendez will begin his role there initially as a general Board member, and from 1 October 2015 he will become the Chief Financial Officer. In doing so, he will succeed Klaus Aha (62), who will retire at the end of the year.
