Stromnetz Berlin invests in new technology

22.05.2018

In order to realise its new management concept, Stromnetz Berlin GmbH has commissioned the manufacturer Schneider Electric to provide a network control system for the management of the Berlin distribution network.

In order to realise its new management concept, Stromnetz Berlin GmbH has commissioned the manufacturer Schneider Electric to provide a network control system for the management of the Berlin distribution network. The new technology is intended to replace all current grid and fault management systems for the high, medium and low-voltage network and to ensure an even higher level of automation and digitalisation.

With the implementation of this modern advanced distribution management system (ADMS), the aim is also to anticipate changes in the framework conditions for a distribution network at an early stage. For example, the energy transition – predominantly in the medium and low-voltage network, with a high number of decentralised generation, increasing electromobility and flexible loads – places new demands on efficient network management with monitoring and control functions.

Jürgen Schunk, Head of Assets at Stromnetz Berlin, on the commissioning of Schneider Electric: "With the ADMS, we have selected a system that provides us with excellent support in designing the management systems for central network management at all voltage levels. Thanks to the integrated system solution, our processes can be optimally managed and we can be prepared for the requirements of the energy transition in the best possible way with digitalised network operation." Implementation of the project is scheduled for the end of 2021.
