Construction site causes traffic disruption

Soil decontamination also requires tree felling

A construction site has been in operation in Holzhauser Straße, in the Reinickendorf district, since August 2022. Stromnetz Berlin is carrying out soil decontamination work after oil leaked from an underground high-voltage line. Over an area of around 800 square metres, soil is being replaced and measures for subsoil regeneration are being implemented using a special process known as soil washing.

The planned work is expected to take about two years. Holzhauser Straße will remain open to vehicle traffic for the entire duration of the work, with two lanes operating in both directions. To make this possible, part of the central island at the Holzhauser Straße junction/corner of the on-ramp for the 111 motorway is required for the duration of the construction work. Tree felling work is also required before the start of the growing season and is scheduled for 23 and 24 February.

Based on a tree survey, Stromnetz Berlin has agreed to a compensation payment for the five trees to be felled. This will be paid to the Reinickendorf District Office and will be used to finance replacement planting.
