A boxful of colours – prizes awarded for „Junction box styling“ 2023

Last year's winners have been decided – schools from Wedding, Reinickendorf, Neukölln, Friedrichshain, Treptow-Köpenick, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Marzahn-Hellersdorf among them

24.01.2024

Shortly before the “junction box styling” projects get going for this year, the winners of last year’s competition were chosen at Heizkraftwerk Moabit. Junction box styling sees school pupils decorate Stromnetz Berlin’s junction boxes and substations in their neighbourhood in bright colours. Every year, around 500 “grey boxes” in the city thus become small-scale artworks. Over recent years, around half of Stromnetz Berlin’s 16,500 junction boxes have been brightened up in this way. Once the participating schools have designed boxes during the project week, they can submit them to the “most creative junction box” competition.

Once again this year, a large number of the young artists involved came to the traditional prize-giving ceremony where the winning boxes for 2023 were chosen. A panel of judges had previously selected podium placements in the categories “Projects”, “Classic”, “Freestyle” and “Substation”.

The prizes were then handed over to the school pupils in the form of vouchers for activities that they were able to choose themselves.

The group gained the most out of 3,000 votes and emerged as the winner from among 44 submitted designs.
