Tree felling in Reinickendorf sadly unavoidable due to cable replacement

17.02.2016

As part of the modernisation of the distribution grid, Stromnetz Berlin GmbH is replacing the existing high-voltage cable network in Reinickendorf-Konradshöhe with a modern, plastic-insulated cable system. The partial cable replacement became necessary since the power cable route, in place since 1974, reached the end of its life.

Due to the high number of trees, the plans were evaluated in advance by a publically selected sworn tree expert. By using a tree-friendly building technique, 19 Japanese ornamental cherry trees on a section of the route near Milanstraße, that were previously planted along the cable route, were able to be saved. The loss of 29 street and park trees in the Reinickendorf administrative district of the Parks Commission was unavoidable. A further six street trees are also expected to be affected. This means that the root area was damaged, but the stability of the tree will not be affected long-term. The measure was organised with the Street and Park Commission of Reinickendorf and an appropriate reimbursement was paid to the district authority.

The planned tree felling will be carried out in the park north of the streets Buntspechtstraße, Wildtaubenweg, Am Eulenhorst and Milanstraße, mostly at the edge of the forest. The felling will begin on 17.02.2016.
