Expansion of the distribution network in the south of Berlin

In the south of Berlin, we are renovating our high-voltage grid on a large scale.

This reduces the risk of customers being affected by a power failure. Furthermore, the transmission power of the grid will be increased in order to be able to easily absorb the growing expansion of decentralised energy production and the growing electromobility.

Our construction measures mainly concern three areas in south Berlin

Districts Steglitz, Lankwitz, Marienfelde, Lichtenrade

Here, we will renew and expand from January 2021 to the 1st quarter of 2023 over an entire route of approx. 14.5 km. We are working on several sections of road in parallel.

Districts Neukölln and Rudow

Here, we will renew and expand from January 2021 to the 1st quarter of 2023 over a distance of approx. 10.5 km.

District Lichterfelde

We are renewing the electricity grid over a distance of approx. 4.7 km in the period from March 2021 to the 4th quarter of 2024. Empty conduits and cables will be laid. Restrictions are to be expected on the following roads: Görzallee/ Drakestraße, Finkensteinallee/Potsdamer Straße

Some trees will be felled in Finkensteinallee in January 2024. This work is necessary so that civil engineering work can take place later to lay the cables.

Power cables also run under the green area at Schwatlograben/Weg am Kraftwerk. Trees will have to be felled to renew the power grid. The green area will be closed to the public from February to August 2024. The tree felling has been coordinated with the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district office and start on 21 February 2024 - more on this in our press release from 21.2.2024.. Stromnetz Berlin will make a compensation payment to the district office. The district office will organize the replacement planting.

From 15.02.2024, the Emil Schulz Bridge will be partially closed due to necessary civil engineering work, which will also affect the cycle path. The restrictions are expected to last three months.
