All in order: Documents & legal

Some technical questions must be clarified before connections for charging electric vehicles can be installed. Here you will find all the documents, forms and legal assistance you need to apply for or register your charging infrastructure.

If you have any questions, please contact your electrician.

We recommend that you contact an installer entered in the installer directory when applying for your house connection or in the event of changes to your existing connection. This avoids delays in the construction process and gives you the certainty that your project is technically feasible.

To determine the power requirement, especially if there are several charging points, please use the planning aid provided.

New house connection

You can get an overview of the process and requirements for setting up a new house connection in the leaflet BDEW fact sheet "The grid connection".

You can apply for a new grid connection up to 250 A via our customer portal.

Your registration should contain this information:

  • Address of the construction site and the client;
if different: the address to which the quotation should be sent
  • detailed list of services (e.g. number of apartments or commercial units, type of business, type of hot water preparation, current power requirement of the building) and
  • Site plan or basement floor plan with dimensions and entry where the connection is to be installed.

We will then promptly make you an offer and inform you about the next steps.

Do you want to upgrade an existing house connection in order to be able to charge one or more electric vehicles?

You can initiate changes on an existing connection up to 250 A via our customer portal.

Persons authorised to carry out electrical installation work

The installation of the connections for charging e-vehicles is a task for your electrician.

In principle, all specialist companies entered in our list of installers are authorized to connect the charging infrastructure. Further information can be found on the website of the Central Association of German Electrical and Information Technology Crafts (ZVEH). There you will find, for example, a technical guide with numerous information on the details of a charging infrastructure. You can also use this website to search for installers.

Planning aid for charging infrastructure

To set up a charging infrastructure, the power requirement must be determined. If several charging points are planned, a simultaneity factor must be taken into account when determining.

To determine the individual power requirement, use the specifications in the technical connection conditions. In addition, we provide you with two alternative planning aids.
